Support for those whose employment with Northvolt has been terminated
Help is available at the government service centres in Västerås and Skellefteå
You can get help and information at a service centre from the Swedish Public Employment Service (“Arbetsförmedlingen”), the Swedish Social Insurance Agency (“Försäkringskassan”), the Swedish Migration Agency (“Migrationsverket”), the Swedish Tax Agency (“Skatteverket”) and the Swedish Pensions Agency (“Pensionsmyndigheten”).
A service centre can offer you help with relatively straightforward matters, such as general information or guidance on using the digital services provided by the government agencies above. We can help you to register as a job seeker, submit activity reports, use computers for self-service, find and fill in forms, and make applications. We can also provide updates on your ongoing requests or cases.
Help is available in Swedish and English at our service centres. If you need help in another language, we can arrange an interpreter for you.
Register with the Swedish Public Employment Service for targeted support
If your employment with Northvolt or one of its subcontractors has been terminated, it is important to register as a job seeker with the Swedish Public Employment Service (“Arbetsförmedlingen”) on your first day of unemployment. Register details of your work experience and previous employers. Then the Swedish Public Employment Service will be able to provide targeted support to help you find a new job.

Information from the Swedish Migration Agency on work permits at Northvolt
Many Northvolt employees are citizens of countries outside the EU, with work permits based on their employment at the company. If you have a Swedish residence permit based on employment, and your employment is terminated, you have three months to find a new job. If you do not find a new job within three months, or if your work permit expires before then and you do not have the right to reside in Sweden on any other basis, you must leave the country.

The Swedish Tax Agency
The Swedish Tax Agency makes wage guarantee payments to you, but the bankruptcy administrator or business reorganisation officer decides on the amount that you receive.
The wage guarantee means that you can receive compensation for unpaid salary or wages when your employer undergoes bankruptcy or business reorganisation.

The Swedish Social Insurance Agency
It is important to register with the Swedish Public Employment Service on your first day of unemployment in order to protect your sickness benefit qualifying income (this is called SGI in Swedish (“sjukpenninggrundande inkomst).
The income on which sickness benefit is based forms the basis for benefits such as sickness benefit, parental benefit and parental leave.
The Swedish Pensions Agency
Compensation from unemployment insurance (“arbetslöshetskassa” or “a-kassa”) is pensionable. This may be an unemployment insurance daily allowance, or an activity allowance paid to those on a government employment programme. This means that you still earn your state pension contributions while you are unemployed.
